Bio of Guest Speaker - Nov 17

Leticia is the founder of Tech Savvy Mama, a site that assists parents in finding the best technology products, websites, and resources for children of all ages.

Tech Savvy Mama was started because of Leticia's personal experience of bringing a computer into her home for their now elementary-aged daughter. With a background in teaching and a career as a technology specialist who spent years selecting software and online resources for Montgomery County Public Schools, she figured that if she had concerns about issues like computers vs. free play, finding the best educational sites and software, and internet safety for children, that other parents did too.

Leticia uses her knowledge to evaluate the many different kinds of technology that come through her door and loves sharing honest feedback to make recommendations to her readers. Leticia splits her day between serving as a family internet safety and security expert (aka Chief BitMom) for BitDefender and being a mom and her nights between blogging at her own site, writing for The LeapFrog Community, consulting for PBS Teachers, working behind the scenes on the MyBlogalicious collaborative blog, and Tweeting. Frequently asked how she does it all, she replies that she doesn't sleep much!

Meet Avivia! Speaker Bio - Oct 20, 2010

Like many busy moms, Aviva Goldfarb struggled to put a nutritious dinner on the table for her family amidst the chaos of daily life. Going back to the weekly meal planning strategy her mother used, in 2003 Aviva developed a system that helps parents take the Scramble out of the dinner hour by giving them an easy, online meal planning and grocery shopping system, along with fail-proof recipes.

The Six O'Clock Scramble (www.thescramble.com) is an online service that takes the stress out of daily dinners for busy families. Each week, members receive a suggested seasonal meal plan with five days' worth of dinner recipes, side dishes, and an organized grocery list. Aviva develops quick-to-prepare meals that are creative, healthy, unprocessed and kid-friendly without being adult-alienating. This weekly meal plan can be customized in seconds based on families’ tastes, schedules and dietary needs.

Aviva’s Six O'Clock Scramble Cookbook debuted in 2006 to national acclaim. Both the cookbook and online meal planning service won praise from reviewers at O Magazine, Working Mother, USA Today, Real Simple and The Washington Post, among many others.

Debuting in April 2010, Aviva’s latest cookbook SOS! The Six O’Clock Scramble to the Rescue: Earth-Friendly, Kid-Pleasing Dinners for Busy Families combines her expertise in weekly dinnertime meal planning with her concern for the environment. In addition to more than 300 recipes, the book addresses how families can make their meals more environmentally-friendly, including buying seasonally; reducing one’s carbon footprint with vegetable-based meals; differentiating when organic matters and offering tips for avoiding food waste.

Aviva is a weekly contributor to PBSparents.com’s Kitchen Explorers blog, is frequently quoted in national parenting, lifestyle and health magazines and appears regularly on television. She is an advocate for healthy families, actively working with national nonprofit organizations and with parents to improve nutrition.

Aviva is a mother of two and resides with her family in Chevy Chase, Maryland, a
Washington, DC suburb.

Speaker Bio -Certifikid - July 21, 2010

Come learn about this no upfront cost, targeted marketing opportunity with our guest speaker, Jamie Ratner!

Certifikid was founder Jamie Ratner's idea after years of writing a successful Washington area blog geared to parents and particularly moms who are looking for a good deal and new things to try locally. The blog has hundreds of daily readers who trust Jamie's advice on local events, restaurants, products, and services. The reason they trust Jamie is because she is just like them a working mother of 2 trying to balance it all, provide for her kids, get an occasional evening alone with her husband, and always looking for a good bargain. Jamie believed that there was a local void that Certifkid could fill for the benefit of her readers and other Washington parents and parents-to-be (ok, and her too).

Certifkid is a business formed by a DC family to offer all that the Washington region has to offer for families at majorly reduced prices. We hope that Certifikid will not just be a gateway between local businesses and our subscribers to make a single business transaction. Our goal is for Certifikid to become an online playground for families in the Greater Washington area to build relationships with each other and local businesses that will last beyond the initial transaction.

Her plan for this meeting to give the group some general information regarding types of insurance and investments and why they are important.

Bio of Guest Speaker - June 16

James S. Harvison (Jim) began his career in Information Systems at the University of Maryland in 1974. He held positions of increasing responsibility starting with programming, progressing through management of campus data centers both academic and administrative and culminating in overall responsibility for all University computing.

In 1984, he started his distribution career when he joined a major east cost office products distributor as Vice President for Computing and Telecommunication where he was successful in completing the implementation of a new distribution system and the internal development and deployment of several strategic systems including remote order entry for commercial sales and a point of sale system for the retail division.

In 1990 Jim became the technical consultant for the National Office Products Association where he provided expert advice and assistance in selecting distribution systems, POS systems and Bar Code systems. Later in the 90’s he founded a software company which developed a Windows based order entry system with stock room management, usage reporting and full EDI support as well as a fax to computer order entry system incorporating advanced technology for the optical character recognition of hand print.

From 1996 through 2003 Jim held positions of Senior Management for technology companies including Vice President of Research and Development responsible for a team of 50 Microsoft Certified Developers in Denver Colorado.

In 2004 he founded The J Galt Group, LLC a management consulting firm focused on helping small to medium size business solve difficult problems, grow their business and achieve their goals.

Jim realized that his 30 years of IT experience gave him a very broad and deep understanding of business challenges and solutions and that this experience and understanding could help almost any small business owner.

He also realized that as a first step to growth and success, most business owners, while recognizing the need for planning, did not plan for many reasons including the significant time and effort required for create a traditional plan with little value for the effort.

After a year of research, Jim found the ideal solution to this problem in the One Page Planning and Performance System which helps any business or organization identify what needs to be done to focus the team on a daily basis in the who, what, how and why to achieve the company (or non profit) goals. Since then, Jim has helped a variety of business and non profits leaders of all sizes and industries, gain clarity and focus to resolve immediate problems and challenges and take their organization to the next level.

What would your business look like

if everyone on your team,

was doing the right things,

with the right priority

April 21 Member Presentation - Natascha Kapoor

My name is Natascha Kapoor and I'm an Area Manager (soon to be Regional VP) with Arbonne. I teach & educate people about learning to read a label and knowing what is in what they use on a daily basis in personal care products. I show them the benefits of using botanically based, pure, safe, and beneficial, result bearing products in Skincare, Color make up, Nutrition, Weight Loss and Aromatherapy.

I also coach and show people how to create an income through Arbonne's generous Opportunity, that can supplement your present income or be income replacement while fitting into the nooks and crannies of your lives. We have a fast growing team; no matter what your time & financial needs are, I can show you how to fulfill them.

I used to be a Travel Agent for Corporate Travel, but when the Internet came in commissions were cut, I decided to resign and stay home with my babies. As they grew, I looked for an opportunity that could give me freedom & flexibility but allow me to have an income that could afford the benefits of a full time position. My friend, Jessica, brought Arbonne to me and though I was skeptical at first, I did my due diligence and found out it was incredible gift for my family & my life on many levels. I had suffered from skin issues as did my daughter and Arbonne has been the only line that has not only addressed them, but worked, even over dermatologists and their prescriptions. As timing & trends leads people to being more aware of the toxins and ingredients in products on the shelves, Arbonne's pure, safe, beneficial, and green commitment lead me into really looking deeply at what actually goes into our bodies and bloodstream, whether topical or ingested. These days with all the diseases and illnesses, weight gain, and so many other health issues, we need to take pause and control of the information that is fed to us.

My mission is to educate and empower people and families with their health & wellness, as well as show them ways to gain back their time and financial freedom.

I grew up in Bethesda, MD and I now live in Silver Spring with my husband, Sonny, my daughter, Jessica, age 9 and my son, Jai, age 6.

March 17 Meeting

Hi, everyone:

We are here to support home-based business moms through advice, friendship and partnership. No category exclusivity or pressure of bringing in referral, just good old fashion brainstorming and sharing.

The Silver Spring Chapter meeting is coming up on Wednesday, March 17th. Feel free to visit or bring a friend. For a list of who is who and other useful resources for business moms, please bookmark our website: http://momsincss.blogspot.com/

10 – 10:30 am: One minute self Introduction: practice your elevator speech.

10:30 – 10:50 am: Guest Speaker: Eric Chipurnoi - Friendly Computer. Most of us rely on computers to conduct business - from virtual networking to e-newsletter to bookkeeping to managing customer records. However, we don't have an IT department to help us manage the most powerful tool! What if virus attack? Are our emails going in the junk folders? Can we retrieve information effectively? Our guest speaker just might be able to improve your productivity to achieve the best sales results.

10:50 – 11:20 am: Member Presentation: TPing Simms - TCS Telecom and more.

11:20 - 11:50 am: Roundtable Topic: Mother's Day promotion ideas and opportunities sharing.
11:50 am - noon: Raffle: this is a good opportunity to showcase your products or services and try something new.

As always, my passion at Dream Dinners is to make every busy person's life a little easier, especially business moms who wear multiple hats! Moms Inc. meeting attendees are invited to pick-up a month's worth of dinners that are made just for you at 10% off without assembly fee - that's more than $40 in savings. Click on the link below to see the recipes, and choose the March 17, 10 am session to place your order. The session password is: moms (case sensitive). Call in your order if it is easier for you: www.dreamdinners.com/cloverlystreetmd

Finally, I am interested in starting a sub-group that IS category exclusive. If you are an owner/operator of a business that falls in the following categories for more than 3 years and have more than 200 clients in the area, I would love to brainstorm with you about this Family Recourse Network idea I have:
Personal trainer
Pet sitter service
Baby sitter service

Personal chef

Personal errand service

Family cleaning service

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Jan 20 Featured Member - Lisa Jo Finstrom

Hello. I’m Lisa Jo Finstrom and this week I am looking forward to speaking to the Silver Spring Chapter of Mom’s Inc. about simple steps they can take to green their homes.

Believe it or not, since World War II, home is where the chemicals are – from the shampoo going down the drain to the cleaner used on the kitchen floor. Every day we learn from mainstream media how most of the chemicals in our home have not been properly tested for safety!

If we were living in Europe, we would actually be much better protected as consumers.

However, as I’ll explain on Wednesday, it is really not all that hard complicated to go green at home. You don’t need to spend extra money! And you certainly do not need to sacrifice truly effective cleaning!

I’m looking forward to speaking to you on Wednesday, January 20th. In the meantime my web site is www.athomeonpurpose.com
